Social Emotional Learning
Emphasis on Whole-Child Education
There is more to education than just learning about the traditional subjects like math, reading and social sciences. Students also have to learn social and emotional skills. Social Emotional Learning is how students of all ages manage and comprehend emotions. Although this is an important exercise for any young learner, it can be challenging to understand these valuable lessons through an online learning environment.
Through Legacy Online Academy’s Social Emotional Learning curriculum, students are empowered to set and achieve positive goals as well as maintain positive relationships with others both on and offline. Through Social Emotional Learning lessons, students gain a greater understanding of others’ emotions and are able to feel and show empathy to others.
We provide all students with weekly activities they could do at home with their parents or independently. Weekly lessons consist of the following types of activities:
- a short activity to teach a skill related to SEL competencies
- a mindfulness activity
- an act of service or gratitude reflection
- an activity for the family to do together
The goal of these activities is to provide resources and support to all Legacy Online families. The purpose is also to offer strategies and start conversations that would help not only our students, but also their families.
